A Talk on Jean Rhys in the Department of English Language and Literature
Prof. Dr. Zeynep Yılmaz Kurt, Chair of the Department of English Language and Literature,delivered a talk titled “Victorian Values through the Eyes of the ‘Other’ in Jean Rhys’s Neo-Victorian Novel Wide Sargasso Sea.”
Held in the Sezai Karakoç Auditorium, the event featured Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Kurt’s in-depth literary analysis that connected Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea with Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. The discussion explored themes such as Victorian values, otherness, identity, and colonial dynamics through the interplay between the two texts.
The talk attracted strong interest from students and faculty members.
