The purpose of the department is to train students who are proficient in English language, literature, and culture, with a high level of English language proficiency and skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It aims to cultivate students with the qualities of scientific researchers in these fields who are also capable of sharing their knowledge with those around them. In an increasingly globalized world, knowing a foreign language, especially English, is becoming more important and necessary each day. The department offers significant job opportunities and career prospects for students, often even before they graduate. Moreover, the advantage of knowing a foreign language in both the public and private sectors is a major reason why students choose this department.
The goal is to nurture qualified individuals with analytical thinking skills who, through research-based, appropriate education, will conduct scientific work in academic and social fields. By carrying out innovative research in these areas, the department aims to become a pioneering leader in its field.
The English Language and Literature Department provides students with a broad cultural foundation and knowledge in areas such as English history and culture, Greek and Norse mythology, cultural theories, media studies, and the poetry, drama, and novels of various historical periods of English literature. The department seeks to enhance students' reading and comprehension skills and ultimately contribute to the field through its graduates.
