The English Language and Literature program started accepting students in 2021-2022 academic years. The English Language and Literature department currently has a total of six academics including three assistant professors and three research assistants.

What is English Language and Literature? Why Should this Department be Preferred?

The aim of the department is to train students who are competent in the fields of English language, literature and culture; have a high level of English language proficiency, have reading-writing-speaking-listening skills, have gained the qualification of scientific researchers in these fields and have the ability to transfer their knowledge to their environment. In the globalizing world, the importance and necessity of knowing a foreign language, especially English, is becoming more evident every day. The department offers serious job opportunities and career opportunities to its students after graduation often even before they graduate. The advantages of knowing a foreign language in both the public and private sectors are one of the biggest indicators that the program will be preferred by the students.

What Title Do English Language and Literature Graduates Have?

Students who graduate from the Department of English Language and Literature are given the title of Philologist. In addition, they can be entitled to receive the title of English Teacher with the pedagogical formation course they will take after graduation.

What Do English Language and Literature Graduates Do?

Our graduates, who are planned to obtain an education certificate, will be able to work as English teachers and lecturers in educational institutions. Our graduates will have wide job opportunities in the tourism sector, ministries, banks, TRT and private media organizations; translation, copywriting in the advertising sector and editorship in publishing houses, which need staff equipped with advanced knowledge of English language, culture and literature.

What Courses Are There in the Department of English Language and Literature?

The Department of English Language and Literature focuses on English history and culture, Greek and Scandinavian mythology, cultural theories, media and gender studies, which will increase the general cultural level of its students and help them improve their reading and comprehension skills. It offers a wide and impressive curriculum that includes poetry, theatre and novel lessons from different historical periods of English literature.

What are the Requirements for Graduating from the Department (courses and number of credits)?

In order for students to graduate from the department, they must complete 240 ECTS credits and prepare a graduation paper on the selected subjects. As a result of the training process, it is planned to give a total of 62 courses, 156 credits, and 243 ECTS.
