The Department of English Language and Literature Book Club Discusses Zora Neale Hurston
The Book Club, led by Dr. Pınar Süt Güngör within the Department of English Language andLiterature, continues its literary discussions in the spring semester. In the most recent meetingheld on Friday, March 8, the club examined Their Eyes Were Watching God, a novel by one of the prominent figures of American literature, Zora Neale Hurston.
During the event, students conducted an in-depth analysis of the novel’s narrative structure, themes, and character development. The discussion particularly highlighted the novel’ssignificance within feminist and African American literature, the protagonist Janie Crawford’squest for personal freedom, and the representation of gender roles. Dr. Pınar Süt Güngör provided insights into Hurston’s narrative technique and the place of her cultural legacy in literary history.
